Day 8. Bremerton to Elma, WA

A big, bright and sunny 75 mile day from Bremerton to the Elma RV Park. We got on the road about 8:15 and got to our camp site about 5:15pm.  Probably our best overall day so far!

After about 15 miles we stopped in Belfair for a latte break.  Angela lined up at the drive through while I prepared some carbs for consumption

And our selected carbs this morning, Nutella and pretzel chips. Yummmm.

At the grocery in Belfair we met Domien from Amsterdam and Dietmar from Lucerne, Switzerland. Both retirees and going the same route as us towards San Diego. I bet we'll meet  again!

The woods are starting to open up more, a little less "ferny" then we've seen our previous days in the northwest.

Another stop for sustenance, this time we devour cheese & salami on crackers, Mtn. Dew and Vitamin Water for Ang.  We took took our late lunch in the park in Shelton around 2pm among families and children enjoying the Sunday afternoon.  At this point we only have about 27 more miles to get to Elma where we have motels, hostels and camping as our options for overnight. We're feeling really good today and the road and weather have been great. Let's go for it!

Still smiling...so far so good.

Still all smiles here....

And we enter the village of Elma. It should have been only 70 miles instead of 75  but I missed a turn earlier today just because I was enjoying the road so much. Turns out Dietmar and Domien missed the same turn because we stopped them on the way back to the turn off and saved them a few miles as well.

We had a convergence of cyclist at the Elma RV Park, all of us heading southbound and all arriving within 15 minutes of each other.  We overwhelmed Ree and Jerry, the park managers. From the left is a new group from LA, James (whose actually from Sydney and about to get his green card) his girlfriend Brittany and her dad, Eric. Then we have our new friends from Europe, Domien and Dietmar, and our "old" friends on the far right, Katherine and Leanne.  We all pitched tents on the same green spot of grass and it looked like Base Camp at Mt. Everest without the sherpas!  It was wonderful.

And for the finale, after a hot shower we dined at the Rusty Tractor, a short walk away. Angela enjoyed her Captains Plate of cod, halibut, fried shrimp and clams.  I settled for my old standby of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy of course and a side salad topped off with a local craft beer.  A strong finish to a great day in Washington!  ðŸ‘‹ðŸ‘‹ðŸ‘‹

  2. I miss the good food stops, not the Nutella on pretzels.

    1. It's fun to ride and daydream about the next food stop or a nice cold beer at the end of the day.
