Day 6. Deception Point to Port Townsend, WA

We made today a short day, only 35 miles counting about 7 miles of hard work riding on the Port Townsend ferry.   We had light rain while breaking camp followed by cool and cloudy skies.

A little after 6 this morning I woke to the sound of light sprinkles on our unprotected tent. I hopped out and threw the rain fly on which made the rain stop somehow. After heating up some water for coffee and rehydrated eggs and potatoes we started packing up just as more sprinkles and distant thunder started to challenge us.

The sprinkles turned into a light rain so we sheltered at the mini-mart across the highway from Deception Point State Park with a cup of coffee and strategized our day while we watched the storm move north on the radar.

A little after 9 and time to ride, heading south and west on WA20 which was not such a bad place to ride compared to yesterday's experience with it.

We jumped on the ferry into Port Townsend which happens to be celebrating the 41st Annual Wooden Boat Festival which means all of the hotels for many miles along the coast are sold out.  We found this out at lunch time when we were contemplating where we would stop for the night. We got "lucky" and called the Aladdin Motel in Townsend and they just had a cancelation and we could get the only room for 30 miles for $155 plus tax.  The Aladdin was just as bad of a hotel as you might expect by the name.  This is why we call this an adventure.

Because we finished our ride early we decided today would be laundry day at Mom's Laundry across the street.

And right next door to Mom's the Mexican restaurant had $4 margaritas for happy hour!  See? Everything happens for a reason!
