A 50 mile day in cool and mostly sunny skies, Seaside to Tillamook.
Shedding some layers on US 101 south of Seaside. We will be on 101, the US Pacific Coast highway, for a majority of the trip. The road is often decent in bike space but traffic volume is much higher than we like.
Beautiful little village of Cannon Beach.
The Oregon coast just keeps getting more pretty.
A kinda scary tunnel on 101. Angela is pushing the cyclist warning light button that is supposed to slow the traffic. It was also an up hill grade so we pedaled hard to get the hell out of their as quick as we could.
Safely on the other side of the tunnel with more ocean views.
It seemed like we were always climbing this morning.
But after the climbs the views were usually worth it.
At the tunnel we met our friends Dietmar and Domien again. We agreed to meet in Manzanita later for Elevenses. We found an espresso place we thought they might like with a nice patio and got to know each other better. They had never had peanut butter on apples so we let them try ours. We now know they don't care for it. 🙁. They did like their coffee though.
The latter half of the route flattened out but the nice views remained. We especially liked the cloud banks along the coastal waters.
Finally in Tillamook about 4pm and we hit the Tillamook temporary cheese and ice cream visitors center. Apparently they are remodeling the old one. This one was crowded and not very imaginative but we did have a great grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup with cheese curds and about a pound of sharp and smoked cheddar cheese to snack on the next few days.
The next couple of days we're looking to position ourselves for a riding free day in anticipation of a large rain storm expected Sunday/Monday. 🌧
