Monday morning around 9 Angela is preparing to depart from the Wharfmasters Inn. We both had a very good night of sleep.
I hope the big ass trucks (and the septic tanker trucks) pay attention to this sign!
Hwy 1 had a fair amount of bad chip sealed surface in the morning but eventually turned into a good riding, smooth asphalt.
Lunch a little after noon around Sea Ranch at the only market/deli/cafe around for 10 miles either way. It’s a little surprising how sparsely populated this part of the coast is.
We’re feeling better today. I am a cycling God, this is my realm, pay homage to me!!
We cycled through coastal pastures with cows and horses and breathtaking long views of the rocky coast and desolate beaches.
We had a fair amount of climbing as well. Angela celebrates another successful climb with a gulp of water. Some of the grades were over 10%. That’s a lot of huffing and puffing when you’re not in shape and your bike and gear weigh over 90 pounds!
And for every hill we climbed we could look forward to a quick descent. This descent looked a bit like a roller coaster!! Whoopee!!
What can I say?
Angela relaxes after a shower and a good day of riding. We had thought about pushing on to Bodega Bay for the night but that would have been another 10-12 miles on top of the 54 we’ve already done. In Jenner (pop. 150) we found the only place around, The Rivers End, to sleep for the night. Serendipity is good. It’s been around since 1920 and sits perched over the mouth of the Russian River as it enters into the Pacific. A hundred years later and cell service or WiFi has failed to materialize here yet. I’ll have to upload this post on Tuesday.
The Rivers End was also the only restaurant for miles too! But it was a very nice, upscale place and we enjoyed excellent dinners and service while watching the river run.
Another day, a good day, comes to an end as the sun sets over the Russian River and the Pacific.
