After a last ride in Summit County with Sandy and Steve visiting from Florida we were ready for our upcoming GAP & C&O Canal path bike trip from Pittsburgh to DC. But first we have to drive ourselves, bikes and gear across the country.
We like to eat our way across the country at some of our favorite restaurants including the Cracker Barrel in Junction City, KS where we dine with our neighbor and friend from Niwot, Mike Dixon, who’s now living on the family farm nearby.
After a night in Topeka we travel on to our old home town Chesterfield, MO where this brightly clothed cyclist raised beaucoup dollars for the St. Louis Pedal the Cause for Cancer. Mr. Amos, against the advice of others, gave me a job followed by a great career of 25 years at GE. We had a great lunch at el Salto after his 60 mile ride but I forgot to get a picture of us so he shared this finger wagging photo of himself before his ride. Well done Bill! You got this!
Continuing our drive for food on our last day we find a Skyline Chili in Columbus which allows me to enjoy and reminisce about being in high school back in Cincinnati
We finally made it to Pittsburgh on the 3rd day and get to stretch out our legs climbing up about 200’ of steps from the Monongahela River to Duquesne University in search of more food for dinner.
We find a local pub called Cafe Fifth where Jonas Brothers concert goers have gathered before the concert while we enjoy Pittsburg Pierogies and a fish sandwich for dinner.
Goodnight Pittsburgh!
