The rain and stormy clouds from Wednesday are gone and the sunshine returns for a very enjoyable 57 mile day, 7:45am departure with a 1:15pm arrival back at the luxurious South Fork Resort.
Headed east just around 8am I was relishing the beautiful morning views and quiet road.
I was feeling so good today, maybe getting a little spring in my swing, I actually had a few guys latch on to me and let me pull them for 8 or 10 miles. I think they must have been in their seventies and eighties but I was still happy to oblige them.
A friendly pooch along the way. I haven’t needed to grab my pepper spray once this week.
After about 25 miles we got a chance to visit one of only two covered bridges in Missouri, The Union Bridge.
At 10:30am we passed through Paris again where I thoroughly enjoyed this huge breaded pork tenderloin and a gallon of french fries.
Saving me from a tryptophan food coma Bill happened along and helped me eat my lunch.
Sometimes a caption isn’t necessary.
Towards the end of the route we are back in Mark Twain State Forest where they have his Memorial Museum. I took a tour and remembered what an amazing man he was, born 2 months premature in 1850 into a 10’x12’ two room shack.
Jimmy has had trouble keeping track of his jacket and we’ve all taken turns caring for it at one point or another during the week. Bill W. was the first to the resort today so with idle hands he decided to carry on the saga of where in the world is Jimmy’s Jacket? This time about 15’ up a tree!
While we waited for the rest of Team Amos to arrive Bill and I soaked and joked in the salt water pool at the “Resort”.
After squeezing all 10 of us in the back of Bill A’s SUV we drove to a great beef and chicken restaurant and gorged ourselves. Then we returned to celebrate Dan’s birthday with lemon meringue and apple pie! I think we are riding to eat! Friday we ride our last day, 70 miles back to Columbia. Then I start a diet....
