Key West Prologue

We say good bye to Max and Stella who will be in good hands while we’re gone thanks to Cathryn and Madeline (and their Mom and Dad!) while we’re on our trip to Key West.

We have a 2,200 mile trip so by Sunday 1:30 we are entering the panhandle of Texas.  Our goal for tonight’s stay is Wichita Falls, TX.

On travel day 2 in the tiny town of Bogata, TX I learn from Officer Nelson that you can’t go over the speed limit when you’re passing another vehicle on a two lane road.  Monday I have to call the town magistrate to see what my punishment will be.

On our way to New Orleans we stop for lunch at a little, old time, general store where I get the world’s largest chicken fried steak sandwich.

Lucky’s a hit with the kids on the streets of New Orleans.

We used our down day in NOLA to take a bus tour of the city including the cemeteries…

and beignets from Cafe Du Monde.

A few nice days with Angela’s sister Sandy and husband Steve in Coral Springs gives us time for a 24 mile bike ride, our first time on bikes in 6 months.  I expect the first part of our trip will challenge our concepts of “comfort” on a bike as we break our bodies (and butts) into riding shape again.
