Big BAM Prologue

On my drive to ride the Big BAM (Bike Across Missouri) I was hosted Saturday night by my colleague and good friend from GE, James Dean, in Olathe, KS.  I’ve known Jimmy for 29 years  and he’s alway been rebuilding, modifying and/or racing cars. He has a refurbished 1965 Mustang convertible he owned as a kid, a 66 Mustang Fastback, a Model T hot rod he built recently that you can see in the background and he’s currently building a 1930’s vintage cab-over truck as a car hauler for all his cars.

Jim gave me a ride in his 5.0 Cobra he built a few years back. It was my favorite out of his collection!

Sunday morning we made the two hour drive to Columbia, MO where the Big BAM ride will start on Monday.  We found another “motor” sport taking place in the form of the Mid-Missouri Soap Box Derby. Very cool to watch these young boys and girls with the support of their family and friends compete on a beautiful summer day down Broadway.

We spent the evening on the roof top bar of our hotel enjoying the evening, watching the sun set over Columbia and carbo-loading for the first of our 5 daily rides through the smaller towns and rural areas of Missouri.  Tomorrow we ride!

    1. Hey John! I’m afraid my riding is bifurcated this year. Almost all of my riding has been on multi-day trips. When I’m not on a trip I’m not riding that much. You’ve done a much better job of incorporating cycling into your everyday life. 👍
