Day 30. Lompoc to Santa Barbara, CA

A nice, easterly 58 mile day through blue skies and the California hills and coast all the way to Santa Barbara.

After a short 4 miles through Lompoc we began what was to be a 17 mile long eastbound climb. Ang prepares to get warm by pulling off her jacket sleeves.  It's time to climb!

Riding up PC 1 the shoulder was consistently wide, the traffic was modest and the grade was steady but reasonable. Nice.

Finally after 2 hours grinding up PC 1 we get the brief pleasure of coasting down 3 miles in 10 minutes. It just doesn't seem fair.

The tough part about being on multi lane limited access highways like the 101 or PC 1, besides the noise, is not getting run over by an exiting bus, truck or car when you need to cross from the shoulder across the exit ramp and back to the original right hand lane shoulder. We've worked out a pretty good system after I had a close encounter with a bus a few days ago.
 😬

After about 30 miles through the hill country we rejoined the Pacific coast line for most of the next 28 miles into Santa Barbara.

A fruit and nut beach break at El Capitan before our final push into Santa Barbara.

A good day and we're very fortunate to be here doing this.

Okay, okay we're stopping again.  It'a a bit warm and we're  tired and we're still not done yet so we stopped for a soft drink at the UC Santa Barbara campus before the last 6 miles to the harbor area where our motel was located.

After some soap and water we get to know the harbor area of Santa Barbara on foot and find a wonderful spot called Brophy's. Shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, fried scallops, and a Maitai followed by an ice cream cone and another evening walk up State St. Good Day, Good Night.
