The forecast called for rain all day today and we've been riding every day (albeit with a few short days thrown in there) so we decided to spend an extra day and night in Newport. We started with a leisurely walk on Nye Beach near our hotel.
We found this small whale carcass along the way.
Walking southward on the beach we entered the dunes and followed them under the bridge to the Yaquina Bay.
Today actually turned out to be a nice and rain free day. It it was still a good time to rest. Tomorrow morning we'll cross this bad boy bridge and see what the weather will bring us and how much further south we can get.
And speaking of bad boys, Domien and Dietmar spotted us in town today. They too were taking a down day so we met at the famous Mo's Restaurant for a very enjoyable seafood dinner with our new friends from Europe.
I love the bridge. I had to check it out on Wikipedia, very cool. Are you planning to ride on the skinny sidewalks or the narrow roadway?
ReplyDeleteOften a tough decision right John? Depends on traffic, rain & wind, how skinny the sidewalks are, number of pedestrians and how long and narrow the bridge traffic lane is. Because of the length of this one and likely heavy 101 traffic we'll probably lean towards the sidewalk. That's what we did on the Deception Point Bridge. This bridge supposedly has a button for cyclist to push to let motorist either be careful for cyclist or to know that "the game is on"!
