A great first day of our bicycle road trip, postcard Colorado weather, almost 69 miles from Silverthorne to Edwards via Vail Pass.
8am departure, looking west from the Mountaineer Hostel where we had a great night.
Dillon Lake from the dam road. Next stop Frisco via the bike trail.
Elevenses at Copper Mountain. About 2 hours into our ride Angela returns with Crepes loaded with eggs, ham, spinach for her and eggs, sausage and cheese for me! Only about 14 miles to this point but it's been a steady climb all the way.
Having peaked over Vail Pass a mile back we're now riding the trail paralleling I-70. Most of the trail up to this point was through pine forests, and flowered meadows following 10 Mile Creek. In Avon we would loose the bike trail and ride US 6 on to Eagle.
A really nice and very wide bike path heading down towards Vail Valley.
Our path took us through the heart of Vail Village where we ran into (not literally) thousands of people at some kind of rich person Festival. Angela found a favorite of hers, Hawaiian Ice with strawberries, pineapple and cream.
We finished our day in Eagle into stiff winds but pleasant temperature around 4pm. Hearty salads with protein at the Eagle Diner for dinner then numbing out horizontally with "When Harry Met Sally" on TV. Tomorrow we will try to dodge a rainy forecast on our way to Glenwood Springs.
