Day 19. Overnight ferry to N. Sydney, Nova Scotia

Leaving St. John's around 9:30 after a little bit of sight seeing I headed off for Argentia, NL to catch the overnight ferry back to Nova Scotia. Only about a 120 miles on my bike but probably close to 300 miles by ferry by the time we dock at 7am tomorrow.

The blue dot is my location in St. John's this morning.  Home back in Colorado is a long way away but I'm looking forward to experiencing more places I haven't been before and perhaps a few familiar ones along the way.

My parting ride down Water St. as I leave St. John's, a great little city to visit.

I just had to go as far to the east as I possibly could so I took a scenic drive to Cape Spear before leaving town.  Much of the landscape I've found in Newfoundland has been peat and tundra like here on the point.
The light house and Maple Leaf flag facing a stiff breeze today.
I know it's kind of sad taking pictures of your motorcycle all the time but it becomes a part of you and you rely on it for so much.  It's like having a friend along to include in your landscape photos.  🙁 #sad.  This shot is from Cape Spear looking back towards the inlet to St. John's bay.

Ok, Okay!!  Now I can finally turn back west and start meandering home!!

Into the mist once again as I head west across the peninsula towards Placentia and Argentia. Time to up-layer with my rain gear to stay warm and dry from the mist.

Checking in at the ferry early lovely Marie said I had time for a lunch at Phillips Cafe but to be back by 2:30pm for boarding.

The Phillips Cafe in Placentia was a great recommendation by Marie. Vegetable chili and a grilled ham and aged cheddar cheese sandwich. Very warm and yummy.

Between the the name of the town and Conception Bay I'm getting a strong anatomical feeling about this place. Maybe it was a very fertile land??!

 Heading in towards the ferry.

I met Geoff waiting in the motorcycle line. 69 years old from Niagara, Ontario he's been to all of the Canadian Provinces and 40 of the US states. Retired for 8 years I could learn a few tricks from him for sure. Very nice guy.

There was about a dozen motorcycles cued up for entry. Riders from Oklahoma, British Columbia, Ontario, Newfoundland and of course lovely Colorado!
Following Jeff into the bowels of the ship.

I'm getting better at strapping down my bike.
I splurged and booked a berth for the night.  I wanted to arrive in N. Sidney rested. C$200 for the ferry and C$200 for the room, all to myself.  What the heck.

The boat is rocking gently and the diesels are vibrating a low frequency hum. I'm looking forward to sweet dreams tonight. 💤💤💤
