We had a quiet morning with Tom and Tracy at their cabin in Brighton Beach and then they graciously helped us get our bikes and gear positioned on the south side of Vancouver so we could easily ride into the city and enjoy an evening there before we jumped on the Pacific Coast Trail and started pedaling south.

After coffee and a great breakfast prepared by Angela we took a little morning hike in the lush forest behind their cabin. This mornings sky had turned smoky grey from the blue skies we had had yesterday. Even though there's been little rain for nearly two months the forest is still verdant.

We took a great bike trail called the Arbitus Greenway north from Richmond to the heart of Vancouver. We made one minor/major mistake and when we crossed this downtown bridge called the Burrard Street Bridge the dedicated bike lane had split to either side of the bridge and we suddenly found ourselves fighting rush hour pedestrian and bike traffic going the wrong way!! They say Canadians are very nice but we got so many odd and stern looks from the cyclist and pedestrians coming at us. We decided to get off our bikes and walk them across the long span but the bad looks continued, even from the cyclist going the right way on the other side of the bridge! I nick named this part of our journey the "Walk of Shame". Tomorrow we'll be more careful when we had back to where we came from. Silly Americans!!
Bob in downtown Vancouver hooked us up with a pump to inflate our tires. Thanks Bob!
Tom and his admin Sally hooked us up with a great place in the center of Vancouver at the Sutton Place Hotel. It will probably be the most luxurious hotel we'll sleep in for the rest of the trip and a great rate too! The bar for the rest of the trip has been set pretty high by Tom and Tracy. Thanks again for a really great visit and tour of the Vancouver area!!
It was a bit surreal walking our bikes past the Valet and across the marble floors of the hotel lobby and into the elevator at the Sutton Place but our bikes found a perfect home for the night right by he window looking out over Vancouver.
After our tasty dinner Angela replenished her store of dark chocolate and we headed to our comfy room for the night. Tomorrow we start pedaling our southward trek back into the USA.
Looks like your off to a good start!
