8:30 departure from Bandon in a cool but sunny morning with a 59 mile ride for a Gold Beach arrival at 3:30.
Heading west this morning out of Bandon I saw something I haven't seen much of in the last 3 or 4 days, my shadow!
You know when they paint BEACH VIEW on a big hill on the edge of a beach town it's probably worth your while to ride up the hill.
And it was worth the climb. What a difference a day can make. We've got sun again, the wind is starting to favor us and Angela is feeling 100% better, back in the pink again!
The Oregon shore has not disappointed us at all. It's hard not to take so many pictures. My apologies.
About 30 miles to Port Orford and the views and our great day continue.
We were on 101 all but the first 5 miles out of Bandon and it was good. Over 90% of the highway had decent shoulders as you see here, and pretty light traffic, especially for a Friday. It seems when the traffic is light even the RV's and Semi-trucks are more safe and kind and scoot over a bit or slow when they pass. It makes such a difference in our day when they do.
We stopped after 36 miles around noon for a picnic lunch at Humbug Mountain State Park.
Angela is still feeling good at the end of the day as we approach Gold Beach. Of course there's another bridge to cross.
Welcome to Gold Beach for the night.
Another view of the Rogue River Bridge that we crossed to get into town. It was built in 1932 out of concrete, in 600 days for $600,000. What a bargain. It was a very cool bridge and pretty easy and safe to ride our bikes across.
Sure looks like a great day.
